Mont-ras is a delightful village of 1,891 inhabitants situated on a rise at an altitude of 88 metres at the foot of the Gavarres hills, close to Palafrugell. Its territory spreads across the coastal plain to the sea. The village is made up of its nucleus of population, dominated by the Gothic church of Sant Esteve, and a number of dispersed farms. In the surroundings you will find handsome fortified farmhouses and a considerable number of watchtowers, like the Torre Simona from the 14th-15th C.

Mont-ras has a small quantity of accommodation but is notable for its campsites, which take advantage of the beauty of the landscape to offer their facilities in the heart of nature.

The coastline of the municipal district is still unspoilt, being included in the Begur Hills Protected Area. The beautiful coves of Fontmorisca, El Crit and Cala del Vedell offer fine views of the legendary Formigues Islands, which have been the burial ground of many a ship.

The geographical position of Mont-ras makes it an ideal base for many walks in the Gavarres, following the well-signposted paths.

The village holds numerous celebrations during the course of the year, but we would like to draw special attention to its gastronomy. You can enjoy this all year round, but particularly during the second half of July in the tasting fair organised by the various restaurants of the village. Above all, don’t miss the special days dedicated to snails, which you will love.
